Intro

662 Animations Later.

Creating a handful of animations is one thing. Creating 662 is something else entirely.

Working alongside Redbricks Media for BBC Bitesize, Poison Ivy brought five GCSE English Literature texts to life through a suite of educational animations. From quick-fire quizzes to quote analysis and sentence-building exercises, every animation was designed to make complex topics more engaging, accessible and easier to understand.

As a resource used by millions of students across the UK, BBC Bitesize has supported learning for decades. Contributing to a platform that continues to shape how students learn made the project particularly meaningful.

One visual system. Endless revision.

Challenges

One System. Five Texts.

The challenge wasn't simply creating the animations. It was creating a system that could support them.

With five GCSE texts, multiple learning formats and a delivery timeline of just six weeks, consistency was critical. The visual language needed to feel familiar enough for students to navigate intuitively, while remaining flexible enough to adapt to everything from quick-fire quizzes and quote analysis to sentence-building exercises and visual challenges.

Accessibility sat at the heart of every decision. Clear visual hierarchy, considered pacing and consistent interactions helped ensure the content remained engaging, easy to follow and accessible to a wide range of learners.

By building a flexible design and motion system from the ground up, each animation could adapt to the content without sacrificing clarity, consistency or usability.

The Final Chapter.

What began as a suite of educational animations evolved into one of Poison Ivy's largest projects to date, helping bring GCSE English Literature to life for students across the UK. The project demonstrated how thoughtful motion design can support learning at scale, making complex topics more approachable without compromising clarity.

The success of the project led to further educational animation work with Redbricks Media, extending the approach into a second BBC Bitesize course focused on GCSE Maths.

Not bad for six weeks' work.
